Remember this one critical point: your resume is not a history lesson – it’s a MARKETING tool.
Think like a sales strategist. Make your resume a persuasive document that will lead a customer to the sale.
How do you do that? There are 2 elements to winning the resume battle.
- Understand the employer’s perspective
Try and imagine you are the reader. What are you looking for? What things do you NOT want to hear? Overall, what will make you pick up the phone and call?
- Figure out what you’re worth
Sit down and write out a list of your skills. How about your personality traits? How about what you’ve accomplished for your previous employers?
If you are able to tailor each resume and cover letter to answer the needs of the above two points, you’re going to conquer the competition.
Re-evaluate your job search package and write meaningful answers to these two facets of the process.
